Knowing the Schedule

To help you plan your family's routine, here is our standard bell schedule:

HMK K-6th

Monday – Thursday

  • School Breakfast: 7:55 AM – 8:10 AM
  • First Bell: 8:15 AM
  • Tardy Bell: 8:20 AM
  • Kindergarten Dismissal: 2:15 PM
  • 1st – 6th Grade Dismissal: 3:15 PM

Friday (Early Out)

  • All Grades Dismissal: 12:45 PM (Breakfast and morning bell times remain the same as Monday through Thursday).

Lunch for all includes 20 min sit time - and 20 minutes for recess. These times may fluctuate due to transitions but please we do our best to ensure all students have the 20 minutes allotted to sit for lunch.

Kindergarten students are allotted 30 minutes of sit time for lunch—ten minutes more than older grades—to accommodate their unique developmental needs and help them build independence. For a five-year-old, the school cafeteria is a high-stimulation environment full of social and sensory distractions, and everyday tasks like unzipping lunchboxes, opening milk cartons, or balancing a tray require significant fine motor coordination and practice. This extra time provides a crucial grace period for our youngest learners to master these new school routines at their own pace, ensuring they are properly fueled for afternoon learning without feeling rushed or anxious.

Grand Preschool
8:30-11:00 and 12:30-3:00
There is no PreSchool on Friday

Technology Best Practices at HMK

At HMK, we strictly follow legislative guidelines to ensure technology usage in the younger years is developmentally appropriate and used predominantly for targeted instructional support. To support this mindful approach, kindergarten students do not introduce technology until later in the school year, allowing them the necessary time to first build foundational, offline developmental skills. As students transition into the older elementary grades, technology is utilized more as a learning management system tool to cultivate essential 21st-century skills. Across all grade levels, our framework firmly adheres to the Utah computer science standards and educational best practices to ensure a balanced, purposeful digital learning environment.

BEACON Afterschool Program

We are proud to offer the BEACON Afterschool Program, which provides students with additional opportunities for learning and engagement after the regular school day ends.

  • Overview: BEACON is a dedicated department and program at HMK designed to support students through various activities. For more details on enrollment and specific program offerings, you can visit the BEACON section under the "Parents" or "Departments" menus on our website.

Getting to School Safely

We prioritize the safety of our students during their commute and provide resources for both Safe Routes to School and Transportation.

  • Our Transportation Department manages busing; for more detailed information, please visit the Grand County School District Transportation page.
  • Note that updates regarding bus stop changes are typically posted to our news section as needed.
  • You will share with your child's classroom teacher how they get to and from school either by car pick-up (parking lot or out in front roundabout), walk home, take a bus, or attend BEACON.

Staying Connected & Informed

We use PowerSchool as our primary student information system.

  • Registration: Official registration for the upcoming school year typically opens in mid-July or early August. Once you register, your information is securely stored in our system.
  • Reminders: We use the contact information provided in PowerSchool to send out important school reminders via text or email.
  • Bi-weekly Parent Memo from Principal Harris: Principal Harris will send out a newsletter to all parents of what is happening on campus and what is great for parents to know in order to support their kids. This is a great tool to stay involved with what's happening at school.
  • News & Social Media: We post regular news and announcements on our school website, such as kindergarten pre-registration info and weekly newsletters. You can also follow our social media (including @hmkelementary) to see highlights of events and daily life at our school.
